X on X: Yaro
YARO-A – is a yaroa restaurant in Dominican Republic. The best yaroa is on the street in Santiago where it originated, but you can find it all over D.R. in restaurants now, like YARO-A in Higüey. Yaroa is one of the most misunderstood Dominican foods. It has been badly described by white people as D.R. lasagna, Domincan-style loaded fries, or even root mash (what the fuck). Casserole might be the most accurate word for it, but casserole sounds like a disgusting thing made from noodles and canned tuna, while yaroa is the fucking bomb.
Yaro – 野郎 – やろ – is a highly confrontational and insulting Japanese slang term. It's a bit like bastard, maybe slightly worse. It’s usually not used on its own but attached to other curse words to increase their severity. It can also mean let's fuck, depending on the context. When used at the end of the sentence it is for familiarization, similar to ending a sentence in English with right?
Yaro – यारो – means friendship in Hindi, and apparently Urdu and Punjabi, though it might possibly be better spelled as yaari.
In Hausa, Yaro means child – boy. Hausa is a Chadic language spoken by the Hausa people, mainly within the territories of Niger and the northern half of Nigeria, and with significant minorities in Chad, Ghana, and Cameroon. It is spoken by approximately 72 million people, 47 million of whom speak it as a native language.
Yaro – ಯಾರೋ – is slightly more vague in Kannada, where it means some, or whoever. Kannada is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by the people of Karnataka in the southwestern region of India. It is spoken by an estimated 57 million people worldwide.
In Ido, yaro means year. Ido is a constructed language, derived from Reformed Esperanto, created to be a universal second language for speakers of diverse backgrounds. It is the most successful of many Esperanto derivatives, though apparently that doesn’t mean much as there are only about 100 or 200 people in the world who can speak it. Finland alone has 24 of them – specifically, 24 native Ido speakers who were raised speaking Ido from birth.

Yaro is the name of a blogger and podcaster in the entrepreneurship, angel investing and digital nomad space. He built his brand using just his first name, Yaro, much like Adele, Enya, Ke$ha, or Zendaya, whose given name is Zendaya, from a name in Shona that means to give thanks. In Shona, a Bantu language of the Shona people of Zimbabwe, all syllables end in a vowel. That means “Zimbabwe” would be broken up zi-mba-bwe, and, at least theoretically, “Zendaya” would be syllabified ze-nda-ya.
